My Story
My name is Matt & I live with my wife and a very lively young black Labrador dog in the heart of Devon, England. I've had many jobs in my time, I’ve been a cleaner, a pizza delivery driver, a graphic designer & illustrator at an advertising agency, I’ve designed & made and installed stained glass windows for a living, I even served in the British army as a young man. But the one constant in my life is the passion to design and make things with my hands.
I started my leather making journey shortly after my mother passed away in 2021. She left me a small amount of money so I decided to buy some basic leather crafting tools and some off-cuts of leather and really enjoyed the process of working with a natural material that had wonderful design qualities and the potential for me to experiment and produce my own unique leather goods.

Ongoing Journey...
It wasn’t all plain sailing to start with, plenty of mistakes and frustration in the first couple of years and a steep learning curve. But the joy and satisfaction when it all comes together is so rewarding. And Knowing you’ve produced something of quality, that is not only functional but also looks beautiful to hold, feel and even smell with the added knowledge that it will last for many years.
As time went on I was being asked by friends (& friends of friends) if I could make them a leather bag or wallet or belt among other leather accessories. So, in late 2024 I decided to start Head Bone Leather. I took a leap of faith and started up my e-commerce website with a handful of my handmade and hand stitched leather goods & accessories.

Going Forward
The thing I love the most about leatherwork is coming up with designs that have a subtle ‘wow’ factor and that my customers know they have something unique and that has not been mass produced and that each piece is made with love, care & attention to detail. I am always updating my website with new and exciting designs and most items that are on the website are made to order. If you need an item quickly just message me and I'm sure something can be sorted out, otherwise there is a 2 - 3 week dispatch time from your order date.
